8.4.0 is in the final stages of testing and tweaking.  At this point,
people should consider the code frozen.  I am working over some last
purify bits and dealing with others on a couple minor leak issues.
Some of the non-source files also need updating (like the 'changes'
files).  I have not yet tagged 8.4.0 for these reasons, but no source
code should be checked in without maintainer review (and maintainers
doing direct changes should also get a review from someone).

8.4.0 won't come out completely bug-free, but I believe we've handled
anything that we know of that was introduced during the feature creep
of 8.4, and the list of features for 8.4 is looooooong.

Barring any last minute problems, 8.4.0 will be out in the next couple
of days.  It's taken a long time, but I think that everyone will have
something to enjoy about 8.4.
